Quote of the month

If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit nothing!”

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Many of my clients admit to lacking direction or feeling lost in the fog, not knowing which way to turn. I watched this film recently and was struck by the power of this quote and how many of us don’t invest anywhere near enough time and effort in clarifying our vision and goals with a mapped out time frame. FEAR of the unknown is quite often the hurdle, so a good starter is to GPS your current position using Jumpstone’s Compass Model.

What’s New, September ’23 ?

This month Jumpstone co-hosted a wonderful Summer Event in the City with Claire Smith at Avalon events at the wonderful Vintry & Mercer Hotel in London.

It proved to be a fantastic networking event with industry leaders from a range of loyal clients from IT, Telecomms and Media industries. Claire showcased a range of her mind-blowing specialist events while I got the opportunity to provide a range of leadership coaching taster sessions which stimulated great discussions and shared insights. Client lnsight of the Month

I often do 3 GPS exercises at the start of a coaching engagement. The first one is the Compass exercise, where I ask my client to position their needle in relation to their True North. The 2nd is to establish where they are on the Curve of Life. Note: The key is in knowing how you determine SUCCESS. The third is to ask the following:

“Are you good enough but trying to get better

or

are you not good enough and therefore need to get better?”

It’s a subtle but powerful difference because we are ALL GOOD ENOUGH, but somewhere along the line, we’ve been conditioned or led to believe this isn’t the case. Therefore, the key is to establish why you’ve been led to believe this and unroot your meta programmes!

The Genius of PictureSpark is a proven and powerful technique that swiftly unravels challenges within yourself and your business through the neuroscience of imagery. It allows you to harness your natural intuition and find true clarity in areas such as strategy, leadership, brand, culture and innovation.

This month’s image was inspired by a visit to the Aberfeldy Highland Games.

Matt’s reflection: Are you weighed down by your challenges, or do you know how to leverage them to your advantage?

Coaching Perspective of the Month

Jumpstone provides a professional soundboard to help leaders navigate their challenges both in their professional and personal lives.

“How do I know whether to push harder or ease off on my approach?”

Many of the leaders I work with often grapple with this one, and of course, it is a tough one to answer as it depends on the individual. The key is understanding how your approach scales in relation to the general norm. Fortunately, Jumpstone has adapted a way to calibrate your approach by using an exercise called Binary Extremes. It helps you determine your default position across a number of paired parameters (30), so you can identify the strength and direction of your lean to opposite approaches in business and in life. The point being, if you are leaning too far one way, you are probably missing the gift in what the opposite trait offers. Try out a few examples below. Where would you score yourself?

Note: When we are triggered or stressed, we tend to reinforce our approach rather than lean the opposite way. E.g. If someone has a tendency to control, they are more likely to control even further when triggered, but the key is in flexing the other way. It goes against the grain of what we’ve learnt, but this exercise truly works in finding greater success in our interactions and productivity.

Jumpstone Resource of the Month

Jumpstone’s Pathfinder Plan includes taking 3 tests: The Leadership Circle Profile, Gallup’s Clifton Strengths and the iEQ9 so the leader can truly understand their leadership, skill set and personality.

We’ve all wondered who we are and what makes us unique.

The CliftonStrengths assessment answers those questions. This online test measures the intensity of your talents in each of the 34 CliftonStrengths themes. These 34 themes represent what people do best. They categorize all that’s right with humankind — distilled down to 34 different themes.

Most people are taught to work on their weaknesses — to fix them. But instead, Gallup believes you should be learning how your strengths can overshadow your weaker areas. Being well-rounded doesn’t necessarily lead to higher performance. You can achieve the highest levels of success only when you stop trying to be a little bit good at everything and instead hone what you are naturally best at.

If you’re interested to find out your profile, check out CliftonStrengths.
